I have often been asked to include
photographs which show selected areas of the garden. The property was
completely flat. By building low stone walls, raised beds, paved
areas, and trellises, the garden was given form and dimension.
The following pictures were taken at the
beginning of May 2007:
The blue iris multiply quickly and create an effective weed free ground cover.
This photo shows the archway covered with flowering Rhyncospermum
jasminoides (Trachelospermum jasminoides).
The Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia) can be seen in through the arch.

The tiered bed sports a wide range of plants. On the lower tier
appears
the yellow flowering Alyssum saxatilis. Next to it is the perennial wild garlic (Tulbaghia
violacea). In the second tier are: Salvia clevlandii which has
wonderfully aromatic leaves and the large plant to the right is
Argyranthemum frutescens.
Here the annual blue petunias have found a perfect home in a weathered metal pail
which
was found in a deserted village on the island of Cephalonia. It sits on
one of the low walls of a raised bed.
There are two clemantis blooming at the present time:
This pink
Clemantis is the first to bloom in the garden and can be seen growing
up a trellis along with Plumbago
auriculata.
C. xjackmanii is
the more vigorous and flowers
all through June. Here it spreads over a horizontal growing Juniper and
climbs up a Yucca.

This
colorful succulent is a perennial member of the Mesembryanthemum family
