I like my cloth dolls to wear leather boots and I have experimented with different ways of creating realistic leather-like boots. The best results are obtained by treating with Gesso (which can be found at art supply stores) the portion of the doll's foot that will have the foot covering . I apply two coats of Gesso (diluted with water according to instructions) and then I paint two or three coats with the appropriate colored acrylic paint. Always remember to let one coat dry thoroughly before applying the next coat. The result will have the look and feel of leather. To give the boots a finishing touch glue on small beads or sew on laces using embroidery thread and a doll making needle.
